Debts

Debts can be damaging if they're out of control. Regain control of your debts before they begin controlling you.

Debts

Sometimes, when people realize how deep they are in debt, it can reduce them to a pile of putty on the floor. Okay, that's a little extreme, but it is best to reduce debts before they reduce you to that or something like it.

Where Did It All Begin?

It probably began rather innocently. You would use your credit card to buy something you want occasionally, but you knew not to let it get out of control. But then it did. There were weddings to attend, gifts to buy, vacations to take, dental bills, medical bills, etc. The next thing you know, poor planning on your part turned into a financial mess! Not having a budget or a savings account can lead to debts--essentially, you're not expecting the unexpected. It can lead to financial disaster.

What's it take to avoid these debts? Planning, of course. And expecting the unexpected. What about if you go to the dentist and you have to have a root canal, and you find out after the fact that you have to pay your portion of what your insurance doesn't pay on the day you get the root canal? It's a problem when you've only got $45 in the bank and payday is still two days away. Fortunately, the dentist's office takes credit cards. So that's $550 you sock on to your credit card--the same one that has the debt from the new outfit you just bought and your new comforter set. At this point you're considering returning the comforter set. That's the responsible, mature thing to do, anyway. Or, you can dip into your savings account. After all, that's what it's there for. But you hate to do that too! So what exactly do you do? You suck it up and return the comforter set or dip into your savings account.

All too often, situations like these occur and people don't have a savings account to fall back on. This is exactly how they start amassing debts. But there's a constructive way to deal with debts like these and credit card debts. You can consolidate debts through a professional debt management program. This way your debts will be paid off a lot sooner and you will be working ever harder to improve your credit rating. And if you sign up for some credit counseling along the way, you'll learn how to plan for things along the way so this doesn't happen to you again.
